Government shutdown update — Oct. 2025

As of 12:01 a.m. ET on Oct. 1, 2025, the U.S. federal government officially entered a shutdown following Congress's inability to reach an agreement on funding legislation for the new fiscal year.

Unum Group is actively monitoring the federal government shutdown and its potential implications. At this time, there is no impact to our business operations or customer services. This includes Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits, which continue to be paid from a trust fund not subject to annual appropriations. We also anticipate no disruption to the processing of new SSDI applications.

Our Finance and Investments teams are evaluating market conditions and remain confident in our ability to manage any associated risks. Additionally, our Government Affairs team continues to track developments in Washington to assess any potential impact on our company and the people we serve.

We are encouraging bipartisan conversations and compromise to resolve this impasse quickly and minimize its impact on our economy.

We're closely monitoring the situation and are committed to keeping our customers informed. We will update this page as information becomes available.
