Unum recognized for workplace, sustainability
Unum has received a collection of honors this fall that includes:
- Three "best places to work" awards
- One of only six insurance companies included in the 2013 Dow Jones Sustainability North American Index
Best places to work
Unum ranks third among large life and health insurers in the 2013 Best Places to Work in Insurance recognition from Business Insurance magazine. Unum was one of 65 companies named to the Business Insurance list, and this is the fifth consecutive year the company was recognized as one of the best in the business.
Earlier this fall, the company’s Colonial Life business in South Carolina and Unum in Maine were also named to the Best Places to Work lists in those states. Unum is one of 60 companies named to Maine’s 2013 Best Places to Work list, the eighth straight year the company has earned this acclaim. Colonial Life was named one of the top large Best Places to Work in South Carolina for the fifth time.
Environmental sustainability and responsibility are hallmarks of our business, and now we have one more reason to be proud of our work. Unum was recently recognized by CDP, the world’s only global environmental disclosure system, for our efforts to reduce carbon emissions. CDP tracks how companies on Standard & Poor’s 500 Index are responding to a changing climate and lists them in their CDP S&P 500 Climate Change Report 2013.
Unum has been recognized for leadership in two categories: transparency of reporting climate change data and for taking action based on that data.
Unum has been named again to the Dow Jones Sustainability North American Index, one of only six insurance companies included on the list.
The Indexes, launched in 1999, track financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. Investing in sustainability-minded companies has become a priority among many investors, said Rob Lockerman, Investor Relations director.
