UNUMPROVIDENT'S NEW ENROLLMENT PLATFORM HELPS EMPLOYEES
MAKE INFORMED BENEFITS CHOICES

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., June 6, 2006 — UnumProvident's new web-based enrollment platform — plane.biz — is now fully functional for all worksite benefits, helping employees navigate the complexity of today's benefits arena.

Benefits professionals are facing significant issues: The population is aging; healthcare costs continue to increase; pension plans are strained; and employees are demanding more choice in their benefits options. The result is an unprecedented shift to supplemental benefit options and cost-sharing, heightening the need for effective benefit communications.

"Across every industry and salary range, many employees don't completely understand their benefits plans," said Rosalind Connor, assistant vice president of enrollment services. "A versatile tool like plane.biz helps employees fully understand the benefit coverage provided by an employer, and the additional insurance options that may be available at the workplace. With this comprehensive picture of a benefits package, employees can make informed choices that make sense for their needs."

The plane.biz platform is UnumProvident's first enrollment system to truly integrate products from its group, supplemental and multi-life disability lines of business while also supporting the enrollment of a customer's core products such as group medical or dental insurance. Plane.biz tailors enrollment approaches to an employer's workforce needs — facilitating communication through face-to-face sessions, in call centers or by employee self-service on the Internet.

UnumProvident estimates that plane.biz may be used to enroll up to a half million applications for worksite benefits throughout 2006. The new system replaces PLANE, which will be retired from use in July 2006.
