$0.075 CENTS PER SHARE OF ITS COMMON STOCK

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., April 10, 2006 — On April 10, 2006, the Board of Directors of UnumProvident Corporation (NYSE: UNM) declared a quarterly dividend of $0.075 cents per share of its Common Stock, to be paid on May 19, 2006, to stockholders of record on April 24, 2006.
