UNUMPROVIDENT RANKS IN TOP 50 OF EMPLOYERS FOR
PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
Company is recognized for the second year in a row
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (March 3, 2005) – For the
second year in a row, UnumProvident Corporation (NYSE:UNM) has been named a
“Top 50 Employer” by CAREERS & the disABLED. The magazine’s
readers rated U.S. companies that are progressive in hiring people with
disabilities or are companies for which they would most prefer to work.
This year UnumProvident moved up nine spots to rank 17th out of 50
companies.
“UnumProvident is very committed to creating and maintaining a
talented and professional workforce that is supportive and inclusive of people
with disabilities,” said Eileen Farrar, senior vice president of Human
Resources. “We are pleased to be included in the top 50.”
In addition to adhering to the Americans with Disabilities Act
guidelines, UnumProvident provides reasonable accommodations ranging from
expanding parking spaces and locations, hiring readers to take industry exams,
purchasing software and hardware, hiring interpreters and signers, and schedule
and workload accommodations when appropriate for individuals with disabilities.
UnumProvident also employs Disability Management Consultants to assist
employees in returning to work after a disability-related absence.
The Company has appeared on the list five times since 1998. This
year, UnumProvident is the only insurance company to be ranked in the top 20.
