UNUMPROVIDENT NAMES CHARLES GLICK
EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND GENERAL COUNSEL
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Sept. 8, 2005) – UnumProvident (NYSE:UNM)
today announced that Charles Glick has been appointed executive vice president
and general counsel for the leading disability income protection insurance
provider.
In this capacity, Glick will have responsibility for the company’s legal,
compliance and regulatory functions, as well as the human resources,
facilities, internal audit and government relations organizations. He will
report directly to Thomas R. Watjen, UnumProvident president and chief
executive officer, and will be based at the company’s Chattanooga headquarters.
Glick will succeed F. Dean Copeland, senior executive vice president and
general counsel, who has announced his intention to retire by the end of 2005.
“Charles brings to us substantial legal, financial services and senior
management experience, and I know that he will quickly become a significant
contributor to our leadership team,” said Watjen. “We are fortunate that Dean
Copeland, who has delayed his retirement plans for nearly two years, will
remain through year-end as a special advisor to me and continue to take an
active role in our outstanding regulatory matters while assisting Charles in
the transition.”
Glick, 51, is formerly deputy general counsel for Bank One Corporation in
Chicago. Previously, he was a founding partner of Hedlund Hanley & John, a
Chicago law firm specializing in financial and corporate litigation. Most
recently, he was the principal of Orchard Equity, Inc., focused on analysis of
and investment in financial services firms.
Glick holds a law degree from Yale Law School, where he was senior editor of The
Yale Law Journal, and a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, where he
graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
