UNUMPROVIDENT EXPANDS ONLINE TOOLS
TO ASSIST IN FILING A DISABILITY CLAIM

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (March 31, 2005) – UnumProvident (NYSE: UNM) has expanded its suite of online tools that help employers and employees file a disability insurance claim.

Employers can now access a step-by-step online guide that includes sample claims forms, administration guides, and information specific to maternity or long term disability claims.

Additionally, once the claim has been processed, individuals can conveniently access a new online claim status service. This online service lets claimants check the status of claims payments and submit key dates related to current claims, such as their last day at work or anticipated return-to-work target. In addition, if an employee is on maternity leave, she can enter the baby’s delivery date online. To date, UnumProvident has helped more than 50,000 claimants access information about their claim through the online service.

“These new tools reinforce UnumProvident’s commitment to providing our customers and their employees with responsive claims service,” said George Shell, senior vice president of UnumProvident’s Benefits Center. “We know that it’s important that the employer and the employee both feel comfortable with the services and support received from UnumProvident. The online services will help employers streamline the claim submission process and make it easier for employees to stay current on their active claims.”
