Base commissions

Base commissions

Group policy commissions are paid each year the policy remains inforce. Commission percentages for GCI are based on the percentage of premium paid by you and/or your employees. Standard Base Commissions may also include a first-year, one-time payment for each line of coverage. Refer to the chart for specific percentages and payments.

Group supplemental commissions

Group supplemental commissions

A broker may also qualify for Supplemental Commissions paid by Unum. For Group insurance products, Supplemental Commissions may be paid in an amount equal to a fixed percentage of total group insurance premiums. The Supplemental Commissions may range from 0% to 1.25% of total renewal premiums only. (GCI is not eligible to receive the new sales premium payment rate.) The exact Supplemental Commissions percentage payable to any broker is based upon the total dollar amount of all group and voluntary insurance premiums or number of group policies that broker had in force with Unum in the prior calendar year. Supplemental Commissions may be calculated differently for other insurance products. Supplemental Commissions are not charged directly to policies. Therefore, the premium you pay is not impacted if your broker receives Supplemental Commissions.
Enrollment supplemental commissions

A broker may also qualify for the 2009 Enrollment Supplemental Commissions program. The Enrollment Supplemental Commissions percentage payable to any broker is based upon the total dollar amount of all Voluntary Benefits (VB) and GCI premiums the broker sold or had inforce with Unum in the prior calendar year.

Enrollment Supplemental Commissions may include $1 per application for using Unum's laptop enrollment system. Supplemental Commissions are not charged directly to policies. Therefore, the premium you or your employees pay is not impacted if your broker receives Supplemental Commissions.
