Unum and its employees are an important part of the communities in which we live. As a company, we're at the forefront of United Way and other philanthropic giving programs. In fact, a cornerstone of The Unum Commitment is the responsibility we have to our communities, and last year alone we gave $6 million to charitable groups in the U.S. and the U.K. including $1.16 million of employee contributions to local organizations through our Matching Gifts Program.

Our employees' Lending Hands volunteer efforts are another way we give back to our communities. By volunteering to be a mentor, work on a local Community Service project, or by giving time to any number of organizations, Unum employees truly make a difference. Volunteer activities are so important that we've created the "Voice of the Volunteer" program to recognize the good works of employees throughout the company.
