Unum discontinues supplemental LTC riders on Universal Life policies

After a careful review of our long term care rider portfolio, Unum is adjusting the availability of the supplemental long term care riders on its Universal Life voluntary product (VIUL 08).

The base Long Term Care Rider will continue to be sold with the Whole Life and VIUL 08 product; however the following changes have been made to the supplemental long term care riders. These changes took effect July 21.

1) No new sales of the Continuation, Restoration or Combination Riders with the VIUL 08 product

2) Re-enrollment of an existing Universal Life account:

  • Newly eligible employees – Only the base Long Term Care Rider will be available; no supplemental long term care riders will be available.
  • Existing employees increasing a policy with a base Long Term Care Rider and supplemental long term care rider will continue to have the same base and supplemental riders as previously purchased.

Additional information regarding our Whole Life product will be communicated later this year. If you have questions, please contact your Unum representative.

Policies or their provisions may vary or be unavailable in some states. Policies have exclusions and limitations which may affect any benefits payable.
