Base commissions

Base commissions

Group policy commissions are paid each year the policy remains in force. Commission percentages for Group STD are incremental, so that for larger premiums, smaller percentages are paid on the higher amounts. In addition to the graded scale, standard Base Commissions will include a first-year, one-time payment of $400 for new group business for each line of coverage. For Benefit Advantage/Small Business employee benefits, this payment is $100.

Supplemental commissions

A broker may also qualify for Supplemental Commissions paid by Unum. For Group insurance products, Supplemental Commissions may be paid in an amount equal to a fixed percentage of total group insurance premiums. The Supplemental Commissions may range from 0% to 2% of total renewal premiums, and from 0% to 5% for new sales premiums. The exact Supplemental Commissions percentage payable to any broker is based upon the total dollar amount of all group insurance premium sold and group and voluntary insurance premiums or number of group policies that a broker had in force with Unum in the prior calendar year. Supplemental Commissions may be calculated differently for other insurance products. Supplemental Commissions are not charged directly to policies. Therefore, the premium you pay is not impacted if your broker receives Supplemental Commissions.
